Community
- itch.io - the home to all my games! it's a great place to host anything from small projects to commercial games. there are always lots of game jams going on, there's bound to be one that inspires you~ but if you don't make games yourself, it's a great place to find unique stuff to play!
- NaNoRenO - a one-month ren'py based game jam that takes place every march! i've participated lots of times, and it's something i look forward to every year (even though i don't always have time to join...)
- Ludum Dare - a weekend-long game jam that happens multiple times a year. i've entered this a few times with friends and it's always been a blast and a fun challenge!
Tutorials + Resources
- Ren'Py Documentation - once you get used to reading this, you can start to do anything with ren'py... this is a major bookmark for me, i reference it all the time as i make my VNs.
- Feniks' Tutorials - this developer has a TONNNN of helpful and easy to understand tutorials on their site. they also have lots of add-ons and tools that are free to use on their itchio page! i'm a big fan lol...
- my ren'py tips - i'm pretty sure i started doing these because i was inspired by feniks' site... anyway, it's a series of random scraps of code you can use for ren'py games, or just general advice to help avoid pitfalls! i've been told these have been useful to other devs. i really need to write more...
- Visual Novel Design channel - if videos are more your speed, vimi has lots of VN/ren'py related tips and tutorials filled with actionable advice!! leans a little hard into the marketing side of things (i think that's his main job anyway?) but yeah his vids are very entertaining and easy to follow.
- Visual;Conference - an annual online visual novel conference! lots of developers put together talks for this, and they're uploaded to youtube afterwards. there's LOADS of useful (and very specific) info in these, and although i've never watched them live, i'm a big fan of the whole thing... check out their archive and see if any topics catch your eye!

Webhosting / Platforms
- Neocities - my site is hosted here! yahoo!! i love the community, we are all making our fun little personal sites here... it's good.
- Porkbun - this is where i buy/manage my domain names from! they're reliable, i haven't had any trouble with them :)
- carrd - a site-builder i used to host my site on! this one is very popular so i feel weird linking it, but it was very user-friendly and easy to understand. it was a good starting place for me before i had the courage to code my own web pages.
- Pika - a minimalist blogging site that i like a lot! i use it to archive my letters from trick. you can use it as a personal site by making extra pages, and there's even a guestbook you can opt into that lets people send you drawings!
hmm
- optiPNG - i run all the images i upload to my site through this optimizer! it shrinks the filesize without losing quality, so things will load faster for people with slow connections.
- CSS Stripes Generator - make some cute STRIPES!!! i love this thing, i wanna use it more actually.
- google webfonts helper - very convenient way to optimize fonts on your site... at least they seem like they'd load more quickly than putting in fonts the regular way, i'm not 100% sure, i just started using this so i wanted to link it here!
Layouts / Templates
- my templates! - i made a bunch of html/css layouts based on my OCs! i'll be adding more periodically too :) they are beginner-friendly to use i think... i hope...?!
- Sadgrl's Layout Builder - this is what i used when i first build a site! sadgrl's resources are a good starting point for anyone who wants to join neocities i think (and you'll see her stuff linked very often on people's resource pages!)
- Kalechips' Layout Thrift Store - a collection of professional-looking responsive site templates! there's lots of cool options here... i haven't used them myself since i like making my own templates, but i think they'd be useful for people who want to put together a nice-looking site quickly!
- Free Website template - this one is neat, it's all in one html file! if you want to build a really simple site with many pages bundled into one, i recommend this.
Site Add-ons / Widgets
- FC2 Hit Counter - i use this on my front page to track unique viewers! there are lots of counters to choose from, and they're all very cute ehe.
- status.cafe - i use this for the status updates on my homepage! you can embed them on your site very easily, but there's a bit of a queue to make an account. i think it took me a couple days to get my activation link.
- Ayano's Guestbook Widget - this is what tons of people on neocities use for comment systems! it's done through google sheets, so you can basically fake having your own server that way... it's a bit of a hurdle setting it up, but the instructions are easy to follow~
- komments - another comment widget, you can embed this in your site through an iframe, or just have it as a separate page. it's good for chronological comments and easier to set up than the above widget, but since it's an iframe you can't customize it much :(
- Zonelets - i USED to use this for my blog, but i switched to Zonelots which is an expansion with an added tagging feature. both are great for running your own blog!
- frog tab this site is meant as a private little todo list and task reminder, but you can make it into an askbox by following this tutorial!
Resources
- Mozilla web resources - this link goes to their CSS basics documentation, but they have an HTML guide as well!
- Filtering items with just CSS and HTML - a great tutorial by Solaria that lets you filter content without javascript! this saved my life, i'm about to make use of it all over my site lol.
- SVGrepo.com - omg this site has a billion cute icons, i used to use Icons8 but then it started making you pay to download stuff??? SVGrepo seems a lot better, the license is listed for each icon so it's clear which ones you can freely share/use.
- Dark mode JS toggle - a simple toggle using css/javascript. it remembers user preferences too!

Drawing
Software
- Clip Studio Paint - i draw everything with this!!!! to me it's the perfect middle ground between photoshop (awful) and paint tool SAI (too limited).
- Aseprite - this is a great program for pixel art! i don't use it for all my sprites because i find clip studio to be more comfortable for me, but aseprite is really the superior program if you want to do sprite art specifically.
- TEGAKI draw and tweet - a doodle app made for easily posting drawings to
twitter bluesky or misskey. i used to use the old web version all the time, but they have a new one that's in beta too! it's very comfortable to draw in.
Hardware
- Xencelabs Tablet - a hardware recommendation! this is the tablet i use. i like them small so they don't take up too much space on my desk. i'm a weirdo who doesn't use a mouse... i use my tablet for everything except pc games that don't work with it lol.
Community
- ComicFury - the webcomic host that cares!!! it's an indie site that doesn't shove ads and monetization garbage in your face. i host my webcomic here!
- itch.io - yes i'm linking itchio again... did you know you can post comics there???? it's not just games!!!! sell your pdfs, my dudes!!!!!!
Self Improvement
- Animation for Anyone - a youtube channel that teaches animation principles in a really simple and approachable way. watching it will make you want to start animating!!! at least it did for me, haha.
- Naoki Saito's Kimagure Tensaku series - this is a japanese resource, but you can turn on english CC to get the gist of things... it's machine translated so sometimes it reads a little strange, but you can probably piece it together with context. artists submit their illustrations to mr. saito and he "corrects" them, giving explanations for why certain choices improve the impact of the piece or help to better communicate the emotion you're going for. a lot of vids on his channel are very clickbaity, but i find this series to be the most helpful in terms of inspiring you to draw better! extremely high recommendation, i feel like my art improved after watching a lot of these just because i became a lot more willing to use the transform tool more often and be a little messier with my art... sorry my explanation is so long, i should probably just write a blog post about this one.

Music Production
DAW / VST
- FL Studio - this is what i use to make songs! there's a free demo version where the only limitation is that you can't load saved files... i find it easier to use than other DAWs, but it still has a pretty high learning curve and took me a long time to learn.
- Magical 8bit Plug - this is a chiptuney VST made by the band YMCK! i know them from their contributions to the katamari games... i was really excited to see that they released something like this, and i used this plugin a lot for Lonely Wolf Treat and BAD END THEATER. i'm more familiar with the first version, but v2 has some nice features as well!
- 3x Osc - this isn't a download link, but a VST that comes packaged with fl studio... it was the first vst that i used, so it's present in a lot of my early songs. it's not like... "good"? but you can make some nice sounds if you play around with it, and it's very straightforward so i like it a lot. i have many presets saved that i still use with this one.
- FLEX Chill-Lo-Fi pack - i love using flex, and this VST was well worth my $15!!! highly recommended, you can mostly hear this one in the Charm Studies soundtrack.
Vocal Synth
- Synthesizer V - this is what i use for my vocal tracks! it's very intuitive... the reason i got into it instead of vocaloid was because there was a free voice bank (eleanor forte lite version) that i got to play around with to be sure i actually wanted to make vocaloid-type songs before spending a bunch of money on it lol.
- Eleanor Forte AI - my vocal synth of choice! i love eleanor's voice a lot, so i tend to use it for most of my songs.
- Kasane Teto AI - another good voice bank! if you know anything about vocaloid, teto is a very famous UTAU that finally got a "real" voicebank in 2023! i'm so happy for her... it's a real underdog story. gj teto!!!

Miscellaneous
Tools
- notion - this is a hugely popular app, but for a good reason... it's a great organizational tool!!! i actually have my own personal wiki built inside it, and i use it to manage a lot of my gamedev related stuff. big fan of notion... you can contact support to turn off their shitty AI as well.
- obsidian - i've been switching over some of my notes from notion to obsidian and i like it so far! it helps my brain not having everything in one place, but i do keep it focused on more text-based stuff and i can't access the pages from my phone, so... a bit limited. but very useful still!
- cobalt - for downloading video/audio/pics! you just paste in a link and it spits out the file you want. the internet is more ephemeral than u think... it's good to be able to save the art you want to revisit in the future :)
- ScreenToGif - a screen capture program to easily record gifs. i use this to share progress on my games!
